Hi everyone, Further to this question, I am also in the process of setting up a tour operator company registered in the UK and operating out of France. Does anyone know, do I need to be registered in France even though we'll be operating from a 'h…

Interesting post! Let me also add few thoughts about launching your company: 1. do not spend too much time on first website. You will have to redesign it many times 2. TourCMS is great product, it can cover your booking needs 3. Focus most of the t…

My number one tip is not to over engineer your first website. I so often see small tour operators wait until perfection until they launch their website. Really the first website should be sufficient to get you up and trading - then you can refine i…

A couple other things I might add. We hired a consultant to help us when we were designing the business and working through the idea phase. The first thing he asked me when we sat down to talk, "Tell me ten things that makes your company unique?" I…

Terry, Thanks for the link to your brochure and noting the process you used to create it. It looks great and the yellow color helps it stand out. I always tend towards doing everything myself so your advice is helpful.

Hi Nicola, There's some great, hard-earned advice here. As Dee says, don't leave SEO to the "IT experts". A lot of design companies offer SEO services - and, increasingly these days, social media marketing, brand development, blah blah - but in my…

When planning our tour company, Shutter Tours, one of the things we really wanted to focus on was identity. We wanted colors and a logo that would stand out amongst the other competing tour companies. We hired a professional logo creator and were ab…

Hi Nicola, I'd suggest using free software from http://wordpress.org/ to create your web site. It is easy to get started with a basic web template. WordPress is probably the #1 blogging & web site platform in the world. I would then buy http://www.…

Quite so, as Dee says, I don't think for what is essentially "accommodation only," you need to worry to much about affiliations. Website setup seems daunting, but it isn't. Do not think "OMG I have to get a website designer and it's going to cost th…

Hi and welcome. Don't know if it helps but a company that I've met similar to you, moved to France, run package tours but exclusive of flights used to be in the previous T&G offering to their current TOPP. They now have a habitation de tourism in F…

Hi Nicola.

How are things going with your company setup. I have a similar company that I setup last year. We arrange accommodation and transfer in the skiing resort of Bansko, Bulgaria. The first year was a bit of a trial run on a part time basis. I built a website using a template, then just added the info i wanted. please have a look at my site www.extremebansko.com

For this season I am rebranding, and am getting a new site designed by a local designer, and will be working on this full time!!

How do you think you will fare with the high prices of the alpes in these tough times of recession and weak pound?? Must be a concern??
