On the contrary. The Dutch are a bit stingy:-) The Belgians tell the same jokes about the Dutch as the English about the Scots: We invented copper wire because two Dutchman were pulling at the same dime. Most comments from the outside world (those not in the know) we get is that we are too expensive. Our guests on the other hand give (sometimes) the same comment as you. We succeed to surprise them beyond their expectations. So we have succeeded to build a great guest base on the basis of an image as you are referring to and word of mouth.
