thank for the replies. It's not the consumer protection we're looking for through the consortium but better prices through the buying power, the ABTA / ATOL coverage and ultimately increased consumer credibility.

I did look at both Hayes and Freedom Travel Group (having been a homeworker for both in the past) but the costs worked out too much for a Start up. I ended up joining the TTA.

Thanks for the replies. We did stop the family coming on holiday - although the child had no spots, after 10 days with a family with chicken pox, she could well have been in the incubation period and we just couldn't take the risk.

Our public liability insurance is due shortly and up to now we've stuck to the same company (via Towergate). The annual premium is £376 per year, but with large excesses which we're now seeking to reduce.

If the child does have Chicken Pox, goes on the holiday, and everybody else gets infected, then that would be a nightmare. I think that the Tour Operator could end up in hot water (refunds etc.) if they knowingly allowed their other guests to go on…
As it's a UK holiday it's made a bit more difficult for you as otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to fly anyway. But no, they shouldn't be allowed on the holiday as you have to put the well-being of your other clients first.
