As my page states I am relatively new to this. Our site for 2010 has only been live for the last month. Our SEO position is good and our blogging helps to increase both our relevance and rating there.…

Aaron As you point out it is really early days, we all know it takes time and with the web getting bigger by the hour and peoples attention span getting shorter by the hour is is not an easy task. You seem to have a tech back ground so this is prob…

No, it's not so much that, it's clearly a combination of many things, but it is essential to credibility. It definitely helps convert people who are already showing interest.

Some good advice on PR on this thread http://www.smallfishbigocean.com/forum/topics/need-advice-led-1-tour-already To me though I am not sure press coverage will do it (increase bookings substantially). Its very transient. But what you can do with…

With regard to getting press coverage, we have feelers out with some pals and some press releases out too, but if anyone has any good recommendations for publicists, especially the sort who aren't hideously expensive :) do let me know

Matt Many thanks for your time and input. You raise some great points and thanks for the catch on 'details & pricing' which I screwed up the other day and have since fixed. I will take a little time to reflect on some of the other points you raise…

Love it :)

Aaron sure, do whatever works of course and I'll admit 'stunning' is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, when I read it I simply tune it out. (The last time I was stunned by scenery was when I hit my head skiing).
February 15
Ha. Well I think 'stunning' is in a different category to 'jaw dropping' and 'too good to miss'. I would say that you are right in a generalised area, but to your earlier point, we are not selling a commodity. What we are offering is aspirational an…

Thanks for this, that has been my underlying suspicion and we are working on the newspaper/travel roundup angle
February 15
haha "stunning" - our editor is banned from using "stunning", "jaw dropping" etc in copy. We also don't allow "too good to miss", "must do/book" unless they've actually fronted the cash and done/booked the thing in question themselves. All this stuf…

HI Matt "Take a look at the bigger websites that sell travel. You will find consistency's regarding how they display their products and how they invite the user to use search functions, trip quotes and trip planners" I disagree with that actually.…

Aaron, hi, I visited your web site. First, my comments are based on selling over $3,000,000 worth of niche travel online in the ski travel business in the U.S. I am now working with online travel businesses to help them build and grow their business…

I heard some statistics from Isango / Viator the other day - they sell around the 10 days prior to travel point. But these are commodity tours/activities (like city tours etc) rather than the more specialist ones like you promote. To me getting sal…

Hi Matt I disagree (slightly). In my experience people will book online for specialist products. However that booking can be subsequent to an email conversation - so the "conversion" process has already occurred, the booking engine is there for eff…

Yes, I am discovering this too. you have been very helpful.

Profile Information

Do you have a website?
http://www.circleofmisse.com
Tell us more about yourself:
I have worked in web-related products around the globe for the last twelve years. I have ecommerce experience in the subscriber market, but not in the travel business.
My speciality is new media, my last big corporations were CNN I headed up a new network/product in Atlanta and most recently ITV where I worked as head of product development for ITV.com.
I have been working on some niche travel products for the last year and its a steep learning curve.
As a team we are a writer, chef/food writer and both consultants with a lot of web experience.
Describe your travel products:
At Circle of Misse we are offering a destination for creative and gastronomic holidays. We run the company as a UK Ltd operation and see our market as primarily UK and Eire, but with interest from the English speaking globe (our creative writing holidays will have less interest in the US market).
We had a strong idea of what we wanted to offer and then spent time looking at what our competitors were doing.
We spent several months creating our first website and have recently spent several weeks updating it for our 2010 season.
I blog on food and Wayne blogs on writing and we have incorporated strands of both of these into our site.
