Hi. We are a small outdoor education business ( www.schoolexplorers.co.uk) and are in the process of developing our overseas expedition programme. We aim to specialise in the lower secondary school age group and primary school market. Our specialism is Iceland and trips that follow an expedition format. Our Iceland primary school sector market is very niche, no one does it. We guide the entire trip with qualified mountain leaders and education facilitators. We are insured to operate in Iceland. We hold the Learning outside the Classroom Quality Badge and AALA outdoor activity licence. We are experienced overseas expedition leaders. We have comprehensive operational risk management plans and in country agents to support us. We delivered our first programme this summer and it was a huge success and now we wish to take this forward. We are in the process of accruing academic evaluations of our work to assist in our marketing approach. Our website will be re written to support this. The trip this summer was financially managed by the school booking its flights, booking in country accommodation and in country coach travel. We invoiced our time for the itinerary development, equipment and guiding, informed the school what they needed to book and then provided two leaders to guide the entire trip. This worked OK but the effort falling upon the school to follow our instructions to book flights, accommodation and in country coach was quite a burden for them and we feel the best way forward is for us to deliver the ‘whole package’. I am finding the tour/ travel / options very confusing and it has been suggested we could partner with a travel agent to resolve some legislative requirements?. Your advice on this forum on what we need or offers of help would be much appreciated. . Many thanks. David
I've just sent you a message and hope we can chat soon.
We are also looking into coordinating study tours both inbound and outbound of Bhutan. If you are interested please leave me an email so that we can discus some modalities .
I assume you are marketing to UK Schools as you have a .co.uk domain? As you are selling packages you would need to be providing financial protection to your clients. There are a number of different choices to do this including bonding, trust accounts and financial failure insurance. You can also join the School Travel Forum which is likely to be important to you as many schools will only book with operators who are part of this forum.
Happy to chat this through.
Things have moved forward quite a bit since my original post - would appreciate a chat though.
